Jimmy Eat World Announce Criminal Energy Tour with The Front Bottoms, Turnover and Joyce Manor
2020 has already accomplished the biggest emo goal possible: a My Chemical Romance reunion reunion tour. However, a Jimmy Eat World U.S. tour (plus Toronto) with The Front Bottoms, Turnover, and Joyce Manor is definitely another win for sad adolescents everywhere who love self-deprecating lyricism and cathartic instrumentals.
This run precedes Jimmy Eat World’s upcoming 10th studio album, Surviving, which is expected later this year. It also follows the relatively recent release of Turnover’s new record, Altogether, which saw the band further pursue slower, more ambient ballads over their original, messy pop-punk sound.
Unfortunately, Turnover and Joyce Manor are each only playing certain dates. Joyce Manor are, as always, not coming near the East Coast. After having driven to California from New York to see them earlier this year, I am not surprised that this is the case again, and I am already clearing my summer schedule. From the brilliant emo anarchy of their 2011 self-titled record to the catchy pop-punk greatness of Cody, Joyce Manor are one of the most interesting bands out there right now, and their live sets are the craziest, best experiences. Oh well.
