Kvelertak Decide They Actually Want Their Fans to Hear Their New Single, Release It on a Monday
In case you didn’t notice, there were THIRTEEN new songs by notable metal bands this past Friday… and that’s just the ones we actually got around to covering (sorry, Imonolith). And that is by no means uncommon these days. There’s some kind of semi-logical music industry explanation for why so many new songs are released on Fridays, but that explanation does include “We want as many people as possible to hear our music.” I mean, I’m sure there are some metal fans who will go out of their way to listen to ALL of those songs, but I’m also fairly certain a lot of those songs will only be listened to by people who are already fans of the band. Maybe not such a big deal if you’re Static-X or Nightwish, but probably not great if you’re Heaven Shall Burn or WVRM.
This is my cranky blogger way of patting Kvelertak and their team on the back for keeping it in their pants and not releasing the band’s latest single, “Fanden Ta Dette Hull” (Norwegian for “Take This Damn Hole”) until today. Believe me, I know how hard it can be to hold your load. But the delayed gratification is so worth it, right?
Especially because the track is great. It starts out as Kvelertak-in-classic-rock mode, but then partway through it turns into a totally kick-ass thrash song, and then it actually gets kinda melancholic by the end. As many people as possible should hear this song.
Which you can do below! Kvelertak’s new album, Splid, is out this Friday. Pre-order it here. Kvelertak have a string of European tour dates lined up for February and March; get their itinerary and buy tickets here.
