Rush Drummer Neil Peart Dead at Age 67

Neil Peart, legendary drummer and lyricist for the band Rush, died this past Tuesday, January 7 in Santa Monica, CA, Rolling Stone reports. He was 67-years-old.

The cause of death was brain cancer, “which he had been quietly battling for three years, according to Elliot Mintz, a spokesperson for the Peart family.”

Peart retired in 2015. His retirement also marked the end of Rush.

Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy was rumored to be replacing Peart in Rush later this year, but Portnoy has shot down those rumors as false.
