Abbath Is Almost Two Months Sober
2019 was a real roller coaster of a year for Abbath. On the one hand, he released Outstrider, which a lot of people (myself included!) thought was one of the best albums of the year. On the other hand, his tour of South America imploded spectacularly: following an abbreviated show in Argentina, at which he was noticeably too intoxicated to play, the man born Olve Eikemo entered rehab.
Fortunately, 2020 is looking to be a smoother ride for Mr. ‘Bath. He has a handful of live dates in Europe next month (tickets) before he kicks off a co-headlining stint (with Mayhem) on the annual Decibel Magazine Tour in March (tickets), and if anyone is worried about a repeat of the South America tour, they needn’t be: in a new video message filmed this past Sunday, January 5, Abbath reveals that he is “almost two months sober now.” And while Abbath’s health is obviously no laughing matter, the former Immortal frontman then demonstrates a bit of levity, removing his sunglasses to reveal he’s gone semi-cross-eyed and adding, “As you can see, [being sober] fucking sucks.” Gotta love this dude.
