Listen to Phil Demmel’s Discarded Machine Head Song Featuring Members of Megadeth and Bleeding Through

It’s no secret that guitarist Phil Demmel (Vio-lence) and drummer Dave McClain (Sacred Reich) weren’t thrilled with Machine Head’s last album, Catharsis — after all, they left the band after it came out, with Demmel alleging that MH “became a Robb Flynn solo project.”

Now we have a somewhat better idea of the direction in which Demmel and McClain wanted Machine Head to move: Demmel has released “The Permanent Decay,” a track he says was rejected for use on Catharsis. In addition to featuring McClain on drums, the track includes Megadeth’s David Ellefson on bass and Bleeding Through’s Brandan Schieppati on vocals. Says Demmel of the tune:

“This song will be the 1st released Digitally under Demmel’s ‘Echoes of Reckoning’ umberella of music, a collection of songs with various artists covering various genres. Digital Release date TBA.”

You can check out the track, which certainly sounds much more like “traditional” Machine Head than much of Catharsis, below. Naturally, we’ll let you know when he releases more material for this Echoes of Reckoning project.
