System of a Down’s Serj Tankian Denounces Trump’s Attack on Iran
System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian has denounced the American drone strike that killed one of Iran’s foremost military and political leaders, Qassem Soleimani, earlier this week.
U.S. President Donald Trump personally ordered the attack. In a statement, Trump claimed the strike was pre-emptive, asserting Soleimani was planning “imminent and sinister attacks” on Americans and that “We took action… to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war.” Congressional Democrats subsequently called the attack a “reckless” and “massive escalation” of the United States’ conflict with Iran. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi subsequently released a statement of her own in which she said that “this action was taken without the consultation of the Congress.” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called the assassination “a grave mistake.”
Tankian has now taken to Twitter to re-tweet a message of condemnation by the liberal documentarian Michael Moore. The SOAD frontman also added his own statement to the re-tweet, saying:
“A month before his impeachment trial in the Senate and on an election year Trump makes a call to assassinate a leader of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. A move Clinton made, bombing Iraq before his Senate impeachment. We’re saying NO TO ANOTHER WAR!”
