Don’t Worry, Sleep are Not Breaking Up

Sleep fans who caught wind of the band’s recent announcement that they were planning to take a break after a trio of New Year’s shows in Chicago could be forgiven for interpreting that message for the worst: it was indeed a bit cryptic. Sleep have now issued a statement in plain English clarifying the matter and, thankfully, they are not retiring forever, just going on an extended break of indeterminate length. Here’s the message, posted via Twitter:

“Sleep has not broken up. After these NYE shows we are taking a much needed break for the time being. Thank you all and happy new year.

“- Al
– Matt
– Jason”

So there you have it. Now proceed to smoke a fat one and jam the band’s 2018 comeback album, The Sciences.
