Binary Code Post Cover of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You,” Donating Proceeds to Suicide Prevention
Long time readers of MetalSucks (the real diehards) might remember that back in December, 2009, we put out Suspension of Disbelief by progressive metallers Binary Code. Those dudes have remained near and dear to our hearts, and today we’re pleased to share the band’s cover of Mazzy Star’s 1993 hit “Fade Into You” from their upcoming album, Memento Mori.
But this is no ordinary cover, and Memento Mori is no ordinary album: 100% of the proceeds (“not a penny into our pockets, even album costs,” guitarist/mastermind Jesse Zuretti tells MetalSucks) will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a cause that has personal meaning to Zuretti. Thankfully the band knocked it out of the park with this one, delivering a truly singular performance that both channels the somber nature of Star’s original and injects it with a decidedly heavier flavor.
You can give the Mazzy Star-goes-metal treatment a spin below. Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes) produced the album, and Jeff Loomis (Arch Enemy, ex-Nevermore) lent a guest solo to the track “Those I Sought to Spare,” which you can check out on Bandcamp. Pre-order the album there as well before its February 21, 2020 release.
