Mötley Crüe 2020 Reunion Tour Rumors Persist
Update, November 18, 10:39am EST: A new report all but confirms a summer stadium tour featuring Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard and Poison is happening. Details here.
Original Post:
Despite the band going to great lengths to convince everyone their touring days ended in 2015 — including signing a “cessation of touring” contract in public — the rumor mill is churning that Mötley Crüe will reunite in 2020 for a summer tour.
Last month, Radar Online reported that the band had been offered $150 million by Live Nation to reunite for a tour under the condition that singer Vince Neil lose 40 pounds and get treatment for substance abuse. The same report indicated that Neil and Tommy Lee were at odds with one another over who should go to rehab. Neil attempted to squash those rumors with a Twitter post saying he hadn’t spoken to his bandmates since the March premiere of The Dirt (which could technically be true even as reunion talks proceed through representatives, although he also claimed “these rumors are false”) and that there is no bad blood between he and Tommy. Then, this past week, The Black Crowes’s manager, Mark DiDia of Red Light Management, said in passing during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Wrap-Up Show” that Crüe, Def Leppard and Poison would be teaming up for a blockbuster 2020 summer tour.
Adding fuel to the fire on Friday, Mötley Crüe’s official Twitter account shared a link to a Change.org petition urging the band’s reunion with the caption “This is interesting…” That tweet has since been deleted.
It’s entirely possible Crüe’s Twitter post was a troll of sorts, intended to drum up drama in spite of no plans of a 2020 tour. It’s also possible DiDia has inside knowledge, or that he has old knowledge, is mistaken, or hears the same rumors we all do and misspoke. Who knows! Nothing real to go on at this point, but a Crüe / Def Lep / Poison tour sure would be massive if it happens. Stay tuned.
