“New York in the Rain”: Body Stuff Debut New Song + Video
MetalSucks’ own Emperor Rhombus once praised Body Stuff for being “creepy, beautiful, inspiring, and an interesting example of the kinds of uncommon influences that can work in heavy music today.” That description certainly hold true of the duo’s latest EP, Body Stuff 3, which drops January 10.
Doubt us? For Exhibit A, I present “New York in the Rain.” It starts with dreamy, dare I say Vangelis-esque synths, and a pensive piano line that in no way foreshadows what is to come: a marauding riff that feels as though it’s stalking you and and a lyrical ode to its titular town that’s so gritty it will leave scrape marks inside your ears. To what other band can we even compare something this wildly original? If Streetcleaner-era Godflesh had cut their teeth at CBGB’s, they might have sounded like Body Stuff. But that description still feels like an undersell.
Do yourself a favor and check out “New York in the Rain” via the below video, which was co-directed by Body Stuff mastermind Curran Reynolds (ex-Today is the Day) and Brandon Gallagher (ex-Old Wounds). Body Stuff 3 can be pre-ordered here. The band has a couple of upcoming shows, too: check ’em out if you can!
