Track Premiere: Hungarian Apocalyptic Metallers Perihelion Unveil New Single, “Tavasszal a Vadak”
Press copy announcing Perihelion’s new album trumps up the band as “apocalyptic,” and really there’s no better word we can think of to describe the melee of sounds the Hungarian outfit use to convey hopelessness, death and destruction. Shit, their forthcoming album, Agg, is about dying, a sprawling release “revolving around the disappointment in this world and the redeeming death of the physical body.”
On the band’s latest single, “Tavasszal a Vadak,” premiering today on MetalSucks, all those themes coalesce into a smorgasbord of sonic darkness that’s best described as, well, apocalyptic. Dissonant black metal riffing sets the base for shimmering, atmospheric leads, and while we can’t understand the Hungarian lyrics, this much is clear from their full-throated, howled delivery: they’re not about peaches and honey. Influences from the psychedelic and progressive sides of the metal spectrum creep their way into the music, too, calling to mind Black Meddle-era Nachtmystium, only somehow even more tortured.
Vocalist/guitarist Vasvári Gyula offers:
“‘Tavasszal a Vadak’ is the opener of our new album Agg. This song was born as a result of rehearsal jam sessions and improvising. We originally intended to put it in a different place on the album due to its heavier character. However, as the concept of the new release evolved, we decided to put it right at the beginning, thereby giving the album the intonation we had always imagined. We love it!”
