Doctor’s Orders: Jason Newsted Told to Stop Headbanging

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted received some devastating medical news that could get any metalhead down: he can’t headbang anymore.

In an interview with radio station WZZR, Newsted revealed that the past 25 years of headbanging have given him whiplash and that he has been ordered to give it up. He admitted to ignoring the advice for the past decade, relaying that this course of action hasn’t served him well, but his health recently took a turn for the worse and he’s been forced to take his doctors seriously.

Being an opportunist, Newsted has not let the news stop him from making music, but it has slowed him down and taken him into another genre entirely. Newsted has hung up his bass and can now be found strumming his acoustic and singing rock songs. Some country influence is evident, but Newsted has not forgotten his metal roots, still actively influencing his writing and performance with some tasty solos thrown into the mix and a passionate vocal style metalheads will appreciate.
