Poppy Releases Metal Song “I Disagree” and Announces New Album
Dance pop star Poppy continues her transition into metal with her latest single, “I Disagree,” following this summer’s “Concrete” and “Scary Mask,” the latter of which was a collaboration with Fever 333. Following through on her promise to release a full-on metal album, she’s also announced that her new album, I Disagree, will come out on January 10 via Sumerian Records (pre-order).
“I Disagree” is my favorite of the recent batch of Poppy tracks, the perfect mix of the dance elements I loved about Poppy’s 2018 banger, Am I a Girl?, and the metal identity she’s forged since (as well as on “X” from that album). “Concrete” veered a bit too far into Babymetal territory for me with its cutesy vocal refrain while this one feels more original… although I’m not sure what’s up with the bridge, which I think is in Japanese. Why the need for that? Poppy doesn’t need to be Babymetal!
