Midnight Reborn with a Blasphemous New Song
Midnight kick off a tour with Obituary, Abbath, and Devil Master tonight (tickets), and they’re getting the party started with some big news: they’ve signed with Metal Blade, who will release the band’s next full-length, Rebirth by Blasphemy, in early 2020.
And while we don’t tend to think of Midnight mastermind Athenar as a comedian, his statement accompanying the announcement is pretty funny:
“Well, I sent a demo tape of my band to Metal Blade Records back in 1987. It only took them 32 years to respond and guess what? They want to release a record! Patience is a virtue. Now YOU WAIT until this new album comes out so you can bang your fucking skull against a brick wall while cranking the stereo at neighbor destroying volume!”
Speaking of patience being a virtue: while early 2020 might seem like too long to wait for new Midnight music… well, you actually don’t have to wait that long for new Midnight music! You can stream what will eventually be Rebirth by Blasphemy‘s title track below. It’s a characteristically evil-sounding song that has an undeniable, galloping energy, but also sounds putrid to its core. It’s like someone set a zombie horse on fire and made it run through a playground at recess or some shit.
ANYWAY, assuming you dig this (and you will likely dig it), the track is available as both as a digital single and a 7″, which in a variety of colors/styles with names like “Nun’s Blood” and “Rotting Twilight.” (Aren’t those the names of some lipstick shades sold at Sephora?) Get it here.
