Will Mudvayne Play L.D. 50 Anniversary Shows? Don’t Ask Chad Gray
In 2016, whomever is running Mudvayne’s official Facebook page put up a cryptic post which read, simply, “201?”. The suggestion, many assumed, was that the band would reunite sometime before 2019.
Which seemed like a fair enough assumption, except as you may have noticed, 2019 is now three-fourths over and no Mudvayne reunion has been announced — in fact, vocalist Chad Gray’s other band, Hellyeah, have a new album, Welcome Home, coming out this week, along with an accompanying tour (get tickets here). So the chances of a Mudvayne reunion show being announced for sometime between now and December are bupkis.
But what about 2020? The Everblack Podcast couldn’t help but notice that next year will mark the twentieth anniversary of L.D. 50, which remains Mudvayne’s most popular album. So they asked Gray if he thought the band would finally get back together to play some anniversary shows.
Unfortunately, Gray’s response wasn’t especially encouraging:
“I have no idea. I know it’s a big deal for a lot of people, man. The band is probably bigger now than it’s ever been — honestly. So I know that it’s a big moment. Me and the guys still talk. Everybody is cool. But every single one of ’em understand that I’m doing what I’m doing and I’m doing it for a fucking reason. “
This lines up with what bassist Ryan Martinie told MetalSucks in July: “I don’t know, only time can tell.”
So who knows if the band members will finally come back together or not in 2020. But I’m sure they’ll come back together eventually. Every band does. It’s only a matter of time.
