New Heavy Metal Magazine to Include Slipknot, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Mastodon, and More
I mean, all of those bands have obviously been in their share of heavy metal magazines. But now they’re going to be in Heavy Metal, the fantasy magazine that has been running for 40+ years now.
The magazine’s next issue — #295 — will be music-themed, focusing specifically on “adaptations” of songs by an array of noteworthy metal bands:
“‘Heavy Metal’ has a music festival worthy lineup of song adaptations coming your way! SLIPKNOT’s first appearance in the magazine. Megadeth’s ‘The Skull Beneath The Skin’ written by Tim Seeley. Mastodon get otherworldly with a story written and illustrated by Realm creator, Jeremy Haun. Tenacious D’s ‘Metal’ is coming in hot from God Hates Astronuats creator, Ryan Browne. Alex De Campi & Tony Parker bring you Amon Amarth’s ‘Berserker.’ Other adaptations of Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Code Orange, High on Fire, Ho99o9, Evanescence, and more! Two original stories, one by Metalocalypse creator, Brendon Small & Joe Satriani and a crazy ‘Heavy Metal’ demon comedy fest from Dan Fogler, Burney aka Batdog and Justin Mohlman, The Ghoul Screamer.”
Unfortunately, the release date for the issue is still listed as TBD. But to whet your appetite, we do have these teases from both Ho99o9, whose adapted song will be “Master of Pain”…
…and from Code Orange, whose song “The Hunt” will be adapted:
“The Hunt,” of course, just so happens to feature everyone’s favorite demigod, Corey Taylor.
The song’s lyrics don’t suggest much in the way of a narrative, and don’t seem to even be about literal hunting, whereas that illustration up top clearly suggests some kind of Mad Max scenario. Interesting…
We’ll let you know when this bad boy has an official release date.
