Brain Drill Have Broken Up (Again)
Tech death pioneers Brain Drill broke up amidst a mid-tour blowup involving copious amounts of marijuana back in 2008, only to reunite a couple of weeks later. The band has held it together since, albeit with a rotating cast of members and long periods of inactivity, but it seems as if Brain Drill are now dunzo, once and for all.
The band posted the following statement on Facebook:
“As of last month we’ve mutually decided to bring Brain Drill to an end. We simply do not have the spare time to play shows, tour or record anymore. So after being a band for 15 years we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s best to just be done with it. We are very thankful and grateful for the support we were given by all of our fans around the world throughout the years in helping us create the Brain Drill trilogy. Thanks again to everyone for all of the support and Goodbye.

Dylan, who signed off first above, is guitarist Dylan Ruskin, who has always been the band’s leader and has been the sole original member for over a decade. Alex is Alex Bent, who currently plays in Trivium, and Travis Morgan used to play in Atheist (although I’m not sure what he’s been up to lately). What I’m saying is that it seems Dylan probably got tired of spearheading the Brain Drill thing, and combined with the other current members’ busy schedules, simply decided to hang it up. Understandable.
Check out “Infinite Oblivion” below from the band’s 2016 swansong, Boundless Obscenity. It may sound like standard tech-death fare up against the bands in today’s scene, but Brain Drill were doing this shit back in 2006 and were way ahead of the trend. R.I.P., dudes, and best of luck to all of you in the future.
