Rob Halford Will Release a Christmas Album This Year
Someone dial up Fox News: the war on Christmas continues to rage, and this time the torchbearer is the Metal God himself, Rob Halford.
As you should already know since Halford’s Instagram’s account is a must-follow, the Judas Priest frontman is going solo for a holiday album this year titled Celestial. At least we’re guessing it’s a holiday album from the snowflakes and Christmas coloring on what we presume is the album’s cover, although he hasn’t explicitly said so. In the description accompanying the photo, Halford promises that all will be revealed tonight, September 5, at midnight EDT / 9pm PDT.
Celestial will be Halford’s second foray into the holiday music world, following Halford III: Winter Songs, released in 2009. His most recent solo affair of any kind came in 2010 with Halford IV: Made of Metal.
Needless to say I’m very excitebike about this one! If anyone can knock a Christmas album out of the park it’s Halford, and I love that he’s leaning into his status as metal elder statesman by embracing the fact that he’s very much entered the holiday music stage of his career.
I’m also fascinated to learn who the “family & friends” involved with this album are. Might we get a duet with Ozzy? It would be truly fantastic to hear two British metal icons together on one cheesy-ass holiday song, but that’s just wishful thinking on my part. All will be revealed come tonight.
