Watch Members of Pelican and American Football Improvise New Music

I’ll be honest with you: this is not really metal. But I think my fellow lovers of Pelican — and the great state of Illinois in general! — will still find it worth their time!!!

The instrumental quartet’s guitarist, Trevor de Brauw, appears on the new episode of the Talkhouse Podcast alongside Nate Kinsella from the band American Football. The two Illinois musicians spend nearly thirty minutes discussing a variety of topics, from their punk rock youths to death metal to being in a band with family members (Pelican includes brothers Bryan and Larry Herweg, while Nate plays in American Football with his cousin, Mike Kinsella). But just as cool is the last six minutes of the episode, during which de Brauw and Kinsella improvise an ambient new track. Like I said, it’s not metal… but if you appreciate these dudes’ work, it’s still pretty rad.
