Track Premiere: Cognizance, “Malignant Domain” (featuring Extol’s Ole Børud)
We were already sold on “Malignant Domain,” the latest from progressive death metal outfit Cognizance, for all the usual reasons one might be drawn to such a track: tasty riffs, catchy hooks and plenty of technical prowess that’s not an asshole about itself. The band is quite good, you might say. But then the guest vocals from Extol’s Ole Børud kicked in — oh, that sweet, familiar sound — and we were ALL in, hook, line and sinker. As if that weren’t enough, Børud contributes an artful and delicious guitar solo, too.
Guitarist Alex Baillie tell MetalSucks:
“‘Malignant Domain’ is one of my favorite tracks from the album. There are a bunch of different flavors in there while keeping the intensity up to almost 11. Having Ole Børud be a part of the track was a big deal for me; hearing those signature layered up vocal harmonies on one of our tracks was pretty surreal. I think all of us in the band brought something cool to the table on this one.”

Job For A Cowboy’s Jonny Davy and members/ex-members of Aborted and The Faceless also contribute guest spots to the record, which was mixed by Jason Suecof.
