Listen to Deftones’ Chino Moreno and Death Valley High Cover Christian Death’s “Cavity – First Communion”
Earlier this month, fellow MS writer Skaylatonwitch wrote about Death Valley High‘s soon-to-be-released cover of Christian Death’s “Cavity – First Communion” featuring Chino Moreno and prompted the question, “Will it be any good?” Welp, the cover song has now been released and I’m here to say it’s gewwwwd, and that’s coming from a person who’s picky about their cover songs.
This version sounds like a pop-goth take on the original through the use of various synthwave and dance-worthy beats which still manage to maintain the same vibes as the original Christian Death version. As for Chino’s vocals, they sound strikingly like something straight out of the ’80s. Think a mixture of The Cure and Depeche Mode, intertwined with the distorted, slow-moving vocals of Marilyn Manson.
The cover will be found on Death Valley High’s upcoming EP, Duel, which is set for release on August 23 via Minus Head Records. Each song will be a “duel” with a different artist including the likes of Chris Connelly of Revolting Cocks and Hanin Elias of Atari Teenage Riot.
