Sleep Token Debut Newest Sway-Worthy Single, “Higher”

The newest Sleep Token single, “Higher,” has made its online debut. While this track is by no means their first to hit the internet, it’s the first I’m hearing.

My reaction went from skeptical to sold over the course of the track’s five-minute runtime. The underwhelming use of autotune coupled with soft-spoken and soothing vocals make the song ripe for radio. Not that radio-friendly is a bad thing — give me Disturbed or Korn and I will eat that shit up — but the early section of “Higher” leans more towards your local adult alternative station. It’s not until about three minutes in that the song starts to pick up the pace with some much needed heavy riffing, more aggressive drums, and amped up vocals, making me think, “Well, maybe I could get used to this.” So this bitch will be going on a Sleep Token binge tonight.

Despite my own humble opinion, Sleep Token must be doing something right: the band has already sold out several scheduled shows in Europe (dates can be found below) and worldwide dates are soon to come. “Higher” comes off of their upcoming album, Sundowning, which is set for release on November 21 via Spinefarm Records.
