Corey Taylor Shares His Thoughts on Mystery Slipknot Percussionist “Tortilla Man”
After the old man rant we highlighted this morning, I was worried the tone of our Corey Taylor coverage would shift dramatically and permanently… but fear not, for our lord and savior is back in tip-top form, this time with some good-old fashioned teasing about Slipknot’s mysterious new percussionist!
Affectionately dubbed “Tortilla Man” by fans for his mask’s pancake-like appearance, whoever replaced ousted percussionist Chris Fehn has done a great job of keeping his identity secret. Almost too good of a job. Like, it feels as though Slipknot expected his identity to be discovered by now the way bassist Alessandro Venturella was outed some years back, and they may’ve even placed subtle hints that no one has picked up on.
So, Corey, in his infinite wisdom, had some fun with the subject during a recent chat with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. Corey messed with our heads thusly, explaining how someone becomes an official member of the band:
“You’ve got to wear the tortilla on your face first of all, and the audience has to figure out who you are. Tortilla face. He’s doing great. He’s a great dude and is killing it, man. It’s kind of cool. It’s brought this whole new energy to everybody as well. So it’s a lot of fun to watch him.”
Indeed, Tortilla Man — who may or may not be Corey’s son Griffin, or possibly a rotating cast of actors — is quite an entertaining fellow to watch on stage. He’s definitely holding his own. Just who the hell IS the guy, though? We’re dying to know! MetalSucks might cease to exist unless we find out immediately… there’d be no point in continuing!
