Mike Judge Says He Has an Idea to Make Beavis and Butt-Head “Relevant Today”
I think most of us assumed that when Beavis and Butt-Head was re-canceled after its 2011 revival, that it was dead for good this time. How naive of us! Hollywood is all about brand recognition. For Chrissakes, they’re about to release the reboot Terminator for the third time in ten years. They simply will not allow anything potentially profitable to die.
And so, Television Critics Association event meant to promote the upcoming final season of Silicon Valley, B&B creator Mike Judge (who also produces SV) revealed that everyone’s favorite pair of animated metal-loving idiots could still get another movie.
Reports Slashfilm:
“’They seem to be still interested in that,’ Judge said. ‘I’ve got some ideas. I think it would have to be something that makes it relevant today. I think I might’ve figured out a way to do that.’
“Judge directed ‘Beavis and Butt-Head Do America’ and he plans to direct another movie if it comes to pass. ‘I would probably direct it,’ he said.”
Between traditional movie theaters and all the various streaming services, there are SO many different venues for entertainment these days I would not be the least bit shocked if another B&B flick came to fruition. And my interest is certainly piqued by Judge’s idea to make the characters “relevant” again, whatever that idea may be (although I’d argue Beavis and Butt-Head is still relevant, given that it was always ahead of its time). So hopefully if we just sit back and demonstrate some patience we’ll get to see our beloved knuckleheads again someday in the not-too-distant future.
