Here are the Lyrics for Slipknot’s New Song “Solway Firth”
As you’re likely aware, this morning Slipknot debuted a new song called “Solway Firth.” And you know what that means: it’s time to pore over every line of Corey Taylor’s lyrics! After all, the man is the great poet of the 21st century, and very likely the single smartest carbon-based life form in all of history.
So what’s on Corey’s mind on “Solway Firth”? The title is presumably a reference to the Solway Firth Spaceman. The infamous 1964 photograph, taken by Jim Templeton of his daughter, includes a “spaceman” in the background, who Templeton swore was not present when he took the photo (it was later determined that the “spaceman” is likely just Templeton’s wife).
Still, the song doesn’t appear to be at all about the Solway Firth Spaceman. In other words, Taylor is likely referencing the photo as a metaphor. A metaphor for what? Taylor makes reference to “living a lie,” which suggests he’s referencing the fact that the photo isn’t actually of a spaceman. But he also repeatedly uses the phrase “HERE’S AN UNEXPLAINABLE ONE,” so he could also be alluding to the photographer’s claim that the appearance of the figure in the background is inexplicable.
