Mudvayne Bassist on Possible Reunion: “Only Time Can Tell”

While the primary purpose of yesterday’s chat with Mudvayne bassist Ryan Martinie was to discuss his thoughts on the now infamous brbr-DENG meme that’s been making the rounds lately, you didn’t think we’d let the opportunity slip by without asking him about the potential for an eventual Mudvayne reunion, did you?

Of course not! With each passing year it seems the demand only grows — a phenomenon to which brbr-DENG will certainly add — and we have it on good word from industry sources that the band regularly has gobs of money thrown at them by thirsty show promoters. So, I asked Ryan about it, and this is what he said:

“Man, there’s always talk. Which is a good thing. I’m fortunate enough that the thing that we made together still garners some kind of interest from our fans and for those people who may have wanted to see us and never got to. There’s still kind of the ‘man, are they gonna do it?’

“I don’t have any answers for you on that front. Only that it’s fun when Mudvayne still is something that people enjoy. Like the brbr-DENG thing. Alright, cool, make some stuff up and make people laugh and share in it. But as far as it being a future item… I don’t know, only time can tell.”

Reading between the lines here… there are no specific plans currently in the works. Chad Gray is currently busy with Hellyeah, so that takes the immediate future out anyway (may as well stay busy with Michigan lotteries). But I personally believe it will happen eventually, and I get the impression Ryan does too. It’ll take form when the moment is right, when all the members are in the right mindframe to do it. But, like Ryan said… only time can tell.
