1% of Finland Went to See Metallica Last Night
Granted, this is a statistic that says as much about the size of Finland as it does about Metallica’s popularity in that country. Still, it’s pretty cool, and the kind of thing that will only ever happen to Metallica, who have been, are, and will likely remain the biggest metal band of all time.
According to Kerrang!, Metallica’s show last night (July 16) at the Kantolan Tapahtumapuisto in Hämeenlinna, Finland was attended by 55,000 fans… which works out to roughly 1% of Finland’s entire population (which is 5.5 million, for the cheap seats).
The band also reportedly donated €55,000 — nearly $62,000 — to a children’s charity, Hope Ry. As of 2017, the median household income in the United States was $56,516. So you can’t say these dudes don’t give back.
You can watch a video Metallica released thanking their Finnish fans below. There’s a buncha fan filmed footage from the show below that. Enjoy.
