Are AC/DC Getting Ready to Announce a Tour with Brian Johnson?
All signs point to Brian Johnson being back in AC/DC, with rumors circulating for months that the vocalist — who stepped down in 2016 due to hearing loss — has re-entered the fold, starting with a candid photograph taken of Johnson at the recording studio. Also in that photo was drummer Phil Rudd, who was ousted from the band in 2014 following a series of arrests for threatening to kill someone and drug possession.
The latest update comes from Topeka, Kansas rock radio station V100, citing a “reliable source” that is “close with the AC/DC camp.” In other words, none of this has been confirmed by any official means, so please proceed with caution.
That said, the radio station claims the source told them a world tour will be announced next Wednesday, July 17th, and added the following regarding Johnson’s participation:
“It’s been rumored for months now that he’s been working with the band and we’ve been told those rumors are true. Brian has been working special in-ears made for his performances so that he can continue to perform without causing any more damage to his hearing than he already has.”
A return for Johnson would certainly be most triumphant. Not that the Axl Rose-fronted AC/DC were bad by any means… just, ya know, that’s Johnson’s role to take, and we wish the dude all the best. As for Rudd, the article doesn’t mention him specifically, but we certainly hope he’s received help and is back in stable mental shape.
