Mike Patton and Jean-Claude Vannier Release Loungey New Single “Chansons D’Amour”
Musical savant Mike Patton and French composer Jean-Claude Vannier have released “Chansons D’Amour,” another song from their inter-continental collaborative album Corpse Flower.
Like the previously released single “On Top of the World,” “Chansons D’Amour” (that’s “Love Songs” in English) is an exploration in lounge jazz with Patton’s sultry, sexy voice (it just gets better with age) leading the way over a steady, rhythmic piano line. Fans here for something akin to Patton’s work in Faith No More, Fantomas, etc. won’t find anything heavy to latch onto, but that’s hardly the point; Patton has always pushed the boundaries of his own experimentation, and this style feels like an honest portrayal of where the 51-year-old’s musical mind is at. I think that’s a fantastic thing, in case you couldn’t tell.
Corpse Flower comes out on September 13th via Patton’s label Ipecac; pre-order here.
