Former Guns N’ Roses Drummer Steven Adler Rushed to Hospital After Reportedly Stabbing Himself
Update, 5:05 p.m.: A rep for Adler says the injury was an accident and the drummer is doing okay. Read his statement here.
Original Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler was rushed to the hospital on Thursday evening after allegedly stabbing himself in the stomach, TMZ reports.
Luckily, the drummer’s injuries are said to be non-life threatening. No one else is suspected to have been involved in the incident.
Unfortunately, this is the just the latest occurrence in a long line of troubles for Adler. He was fired from Guns N’ Roses in 1990, during the recording of Use Your Illusion, for being so badly addicted to drugs that he couldn’t record his parts (which is really saying something, because Christ can only imagine what kind of shape Slash and Duff were during that same time). He was infamously so strung out at that year’s Farm Aid performance that he took a nasty spill on the way to his drum riser — before a single note had even been played.

Adler was subsequently embroiled in legal battles with the band for years after. Then, in 1996, he suffered a cocaine-induced stroke which left him in a coma for several days. He ended up appearing on multiple seasons of the reality shows Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and Sober House. Still, when Velvet Revolver was launched, in 2003, it was with his GN’R successor, Matt Sorum, on drums. And when Axl, Slash, and Duff finally made up and reunited in 2016, they opted to keep Axl’s Chinese Democracy-era drummer, Frank Ferrer, with Adler invited only to make a few brief cameos on the ensuing mega-tour. Adler has always made it clear that this separation from the rest of the band — especially Slash, with whom he’s been friends since they were kids — has hurt him tremendously.
Everyone at MetalSucks wishes Adler a speedy recovery. We hope this is truly his “rock bottom” and that he’s now able to turn a corner in his life and finally find some peace of mind.
