Shock Narcotic: New Grind Band Features Current and Former Members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Dahlia Murder, Battlecross, and Child Bite

Shock Narcotic is one of those names that’s interesting not just because it rolls off the tongue and sounds cool, but because it’s not entirely clear what their name means, too. Is it a reference to a narcotic that puts the user into a state of shock? Is it a narcotic used to help someone who is already in a state of shock? Is it a narcotic used for the sake of shock itself? Is it a narcotic that someone uses for static electricity? Or perhaps it’s just the phrase “Sock Narcotic” as spoken by an old Yiddish man?

Regardless of the answer, “Pray for Paralysis,” the grind quartet’s new song, is the fuck-you-up-fantastic song your Monday needs. This is some rancid, vile, cruel shit right here, a Molotov of malignance that fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. I mean that as a compliment.

That the track is so tight shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, though, given the band’s lineage: its line-up consists of vocalist Shawn Knight (Child Bite), guitarist Jeff Tuttle (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan), drummer Zach Gibson (Shit Life, ex-The Black Dahlia Murder), and Don Slater (Battlecross). So. Yeah. These dudes know their shit.

Check out “Pray for Paralysis” below. The track will appear on Shock Narcotic’s debut full-length, the excellently-named I Have Seen the Future and It Doesn’t Work, on August 16. It will also feature “guest backing vocals by Full of Hell’s Dylan Walker,” although it’s not clear what song or songs those are on. In any case, you can pre-order the album here!
