Lionize Release “Loneliest Whale,” a Song About a Very Lonely Whale, and Announce New Album Panic Attack!
What do Gojira, Mastodon and Lionize have in common? They all reference whales in their music and all kick ass, duh!
I’m not sure what the fascination with Cetacea is, but boogie rockers Lionize have released the first single off their upcoming full-length album, Panic Attack!, entitled “Loneliest Whale,” and it’s a unique blend of rock, funk, soul, and pop that’ll get your head bopping seconds in. Bonus points: the single, as well as the entire album, features Clutch’s Jean-Paul Gaster working the drum set.
While I can’t speak for Mastodon or Gojira, Lionize frontman Nate Bergman explains that the song “was inspired by an article in Science Weekly about a whale that can’t find its pod because its sending and receiving frequency are unlike any other whale on Earth.” I sincerely hope that whale finds a pal soon.
Whale references aside, this song isn’t exactly metal, but it’s worth a listen. You don’t want to catch me on the street today; I’ll be out repeatedly wailing, “Is there anyone out there just like meeeeeee?”
Stream the single below and be sure to pre-order Panic Attack!, which is slated for release on October 18; pre-order here.
