Big Wreck Guitarist Brian Doherty Has Passed Away at 51
Bria Doherty, guitarist of the long-running, critically acclaimed Canadian rock band Big Wreck, passed away on Wednesday, June 5th after a “prolonged and brave struggle” with cancer. He was just 51 years old.
The band revealed the news on Facebook yesterday afternoon with a brief post:
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our brother, Brian Doherty, passed away peacefully yesterday after a prolonged and brave struggle with cancer. Brian started Big Wreck with Ian in their dorm in Boston and his passing is a profound loss to us all. Our deepest condolences go out to Brian’s family. He was a good soul who will be missed by all who knew him personally or through the beautiful music he performed.”
Big Wreck’s best known and most commercially successful album, In Loving Memory Of, came out in 1997. The band would break up in 2002 following the release of one more album before reuniting in 2010. The reunited lineup has put out three albums, with a fourth, But For the Sun, set for release in August. That album’s unveiling will now take on a very special meaning.
Wishing all the best to Doherty’s friends, family and bandmates on behalf of everyone at MetalSucks.
