Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe: “It’s Hard to Say What’s Gonna Happen with Chris Adler”
Last summer, Lamb of God announced that they were going to be forced to tour without Chris Adler as a result of injuries the drummer sustained in a 2017 motorcycle accident. The group recruited Art Cruz (Winds of Plague) as a fill-in, and life went on.
In fact, I think some of us — well, me, at least — assumed that Adler had since returned to the fold. After all, it’s been nearly a year.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the case! Adler has apparently been sidelined this entire time, with Cruz continuously manning the kit in his stead. So when is the much-revered skinsman returning to the fold? Randy Blythe’s answer, supplied to our friends at WSOU, is not reassuring:
“It’s hard to say what’s gonna happen with Chris Adler. I have no comment on him.”
At the risk of making a mountain out of a molehill, that quote made me wet myself with dread. If Randy had said “I don’t know when he’ll be back, but he’ll be back,” that would be one thing. But “It’s hard to say what’s gonna happen, no comment”… that makes it sound like there’s at least a possibility Adler won’t be coming back. Which would be terrible; Adler is an amazing drummer, and Lamb of God are the extremely rare instance of a band that has never had a line-up change before (unless you count guitarist Abe Spear from the Burn the Priest days, but you don’t, nobody does). Adler leaving the band would truly be a WHHHHOOOOOOAAAAA moment.
Hopefully I’m reading way too much into this. I guess we’ll find out.
You can listen to the entire WSOU interview with Randy below. Lamb of God have some European tour dates lined up for the summer before a pair of U.S. festival appearances in the fall. Get dates here.
