The Mars Volta Appear to Be Reuniting
After it seven years, it looks like The Mars Volta’s “indefinite hiatus” is finally over.
Consequence of Sound reports that the news broke following a series of tweets from singer and former Beto O’Rourke bandmate Cedric Bixler-Zavala. In the first, Bixler-Zavala revealed that he was in the studio with “Puerto Rican Bernie Sanders,” which is apparently a nickname for TMV guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López.

Then, in two since-deleted tweets which no one had the good sense to screencap, the singer reportedly told one fan who asked about new Mars Volta music that “It’s happening,” and told another that the band “are in the kitchen finding new ways to through [sic] curve balls.” Most revealingly, in a since-deleted tweet that someone did have the good sense to screencap, Bixler-Zavala went into slightly more detail about the reunion:
I’ll tell you what really jumped out at me about this last statement: the reference to the Claire Danes version of Romeo and Juliet. Is it really possible that Bixler-Zavala hasn’t seen another movie where someone cries since 1996? The mind boggles.
More info as it becomes available.
