Exclusive Cinemetal Premiere: Moon Tooth’s “Musketeers”

0

As its title suggests, Moon Tooth’s latest single, “Musketeers,” is all about solidarity. So what better way to visually represent the song than to enlist the help of the Long Island band’s friends?

Which is exactly what they did! The “Musketeers” video is overrun with a bevy of beloved local New York musicians, all taking turns pretending to be Moon Tooth mid-performance. This includes members of other perennial MetalSucks favorites, like Hivesmasher and Gyre, and Naeemah Z. Maddox, who provides vocals for “Reveal,” the strongest and unexpected track on Mark Morton’s recent solo album, Anesthetic. But even if you have no idea who any of these people are, the theme of the highly-entertaining clip is clear: regardless of gender or race or religion or any other damned thing, we are all One.

Watch the video for “Musketeers,”  which was directed, shot, and edited by Tom Flynn, above! The song appears on Moon Tooth’s sophomore full-legnth, Crux, which is out now on Modern Static Records. Get it here. Below, you can read statements from all the video’s participants about what “Musketeers” means to them.

Moon Tooth are currently on tour with Animals as Leaders as The Contortionist — and there are still three shows left! Get dates at the bottom of this post!! These dudes rule live… you do not wanna miss ’em!!!

“The song is about showing solidarity with people of different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, etc. Recognizing that there are hardships they face simply because of how they were born and/or how they identify themselves.” -John Carbone, Moon Tooth

“Why do we separate ourselves from one another? Could it be learned fear? We are all a part of the whole and there is a common thread that connects us all. As we continue to fight our way through these polarizing social constructs, remember there is strength in numbers. Let us continue to challenge the Vile Tyrants of the world by showing our solidarity by truly loving and standing with our brothers and sisters – because we are just that. One tribe. ” –Naeemah Z. Maddox

“My hope for our people, no matter where they come from or what perspectives they may have, is that they open their hearts and their minds and become conscious human beings to become better people. Starting with our young. I’ve been discriminated against and continue to face adversity, but that doesn’t mean I need to hate everyone or everything. We are all individual links, when united together, we create a beautiful diamond necklace.”
– Jahzeel Montes (Salvia)

“Growing up Asian-American in a racist state like Massachusetts, I’ve dealt with bigotry my entire life. Coming out as pansexual in my teens didn’t help my situation. Finding metal and hardcore where a proper positive message can be conveyed for (seemingly) “outcasts” like myself was the perfect community.” -Aaron Heinold (Hivesmasher, Wreath of Tongues)

“My entire family – myself included – came to the States by family-based migration. I see how hard my parents work and how much they contribute to society. It’s beyond reprehensible for our president to want to exclude people like myself and my parents based on the color of our skin or where we came from.”-Pablo Corpio (Gyre)

“It is terrifying to live in my own body in our country right now. The clown running this place does not care about our rights to our own bodies, and we need to act now. We need to support each other and bands like Moon Tooth who have a voice, and are determined to make a difference now.”- Sam Raia (Necter)

“Musketeers” Lyrics
Sheep and cattle
Tamed and saddled
But I’m saving
All my white-picket plans
For the road
Got soul, got bite
Baptized in neon light
Yeah, learned about freedom
From stomping and screaming
Gave my blood and gave my salt
I learned about truth
On the electric altar

First he came for our sisters
Then he came for our brothers
Then we told him
Not today, motherfucker
We got your number

Now I’m raising this soapbox
Against a stiff right hand
Never gonna fall in line
With the “great” white man
Small hands, small crowds
Bring him down
Kick out the clown

Never hide behind the way I was born
One for all and all for one
