Amazing Viral Video: Guy Sings Both Parts of Evanescence Song Using Gender Swap Filter

It’s taken me a long time to get to this point — 16 years, to be exact — but I now fully concede that Evanescence’s 2003 mega hit “Bring Me to Life” slaps. Hard. I hated it at the time because I despised everything rap-metal/nu-metal, but in hindsight, reframed as a regular pop song that just happens to have heavy guitars, it’s one of the goddamn catchiest things to ever grace the hallowed halls of payola active rock radio. It also helps that I saw Amy Lee sing at the Revolver Golden Gods several years back, and yo, there is ZERO studio magic in her album performances: she can fucking nail it.

Evanescence’s big hit met of-the-moment social network trends this past weekend when an enterprising fan utilized Instagram’s new gender swap filter to perform both Amy Lee and Paul McCoy’s vocal parts, tilting his head to the side to deactivate the filter for McCoy’s parts and staring directly into his phone to engage the filter for Lee’s. It’s so simple yet so genius, and it’s endlessly entertaining. Forget breaking news, forget metal gossip, forget porn: this is the stuff the internet is made for.
