Bummed About Agalloch? Listen to Falls of Rauros!
It sure stinks that Agalloch mastermind John Haughm turned out to be an anti-Semitic edgelord, doesn’t it? Despite the rest of his former bandmembers’ denunciation of Haughm’s language and claims that “he is NOT Agalloch,” I’ve found it incredibly difficult to listen to the band’s music lately (I haven’t at all) despite its importance to me.
Enter Falls of Rauros, a band we’ve covered before on this site, although admittedly not nearly enough. The Portland, ME black metallers will release a new album in July, and Decibel has blessed us with a single from the album that I’ve been playing over and over ever since it came out a couple weeks back. In short, “New Inertia” provides great hope that Patterns in Mythology will take the mantle from Agalloch (see what I did there?) of dynamic, progressive, experimental black metal and bring it to new places, substantiating Decibel scribe Vince Bellino’s claim that’ll end up being one of the best albums of 2019.
Take it for a spin below and see what you think. Patterns in Mythology comes out July 19 via Gilead Media; pre-order here.
