This Silver Snakes Album is Fire ????????????

On their new album Death and the Moon, Silver Snakes have taken a turn from the radio-friendly hard rock of their 2016 release Saboteur — they were quite good at that, for what it’s worth — and leaned hard into the murky waters of industrial, which they’d experimented with in the past.

Replete with both metal / hard rock touchstones (i.e. distorted guitars) and all manner of electronica, bleeps and bloops sit snugly alongside buzzsaw guitars, driving rhythms are propelled both by electronic loops and the real thing — often at the same time for added texture — there’s ample atmosphere via layered guitars and keyboards and, most importantly, the band has stuck with what made their previous album so good: the art of songwriting. Tracks like “Wool” could easily fit into today’s rock radio landscape, although they probably won’t: Silver Snakes’ music has always been a touch too compositionally complex for most mainstream ears. Which is why I dig it so much.

Death And The Moon is out now via Claudio Sanchez’s Evil Ink Records; order here. The band is on tour in North America right now with Combichrist. Remaining dates underneath the album embed.
