Full Album Premiere: Stream Kurokuma’s Otherworldly Psych/Sludge-Fest, Sheffield’s Best Metal Bands Vol. 1
Kurokuma are a cluster fuck of things, but uninteresting is far from being one of them. Original music has been popping up more and more as a result of combining genres, and really, why stick to one when there’s a slew of enthralling elements to be combined? Kurokuma’s new album, Sheffield’s Best Metal Bands Vol. 1, is proof of that.
The album is a blend of psych, sludge, and doom co-existing to offer a 24-minute surreal experience that keeps you on your toes. Should you dance? Headbang? Start a mosh pit? Smoke vast amounts of the devil’s lettuce? The answer is all of the above. The songs succeed in creating a world of their own through the use of dark atmospherics, which then mercilessly turn into wailing vocals and sludge riffs that may as well be molasses. I could go into a spiel attempting to convey the trip this band just sent me on, or you could just take the trip yourself and go a little insane.
Sheffield’s Best Metal Bands Vol. 1 comes out on Friday, May 3rd via Off Me Nut Records; pre-order here. Kurokuma play at Desertfest London on Saturday, May 5th.
