Track Premiere: Nevalra, “… Of Ruination”
Haven’t heard of Nevalra yet? Neither had we until MS scribe Phil Boozeman named their 2015 EP The Black Flame as his sixth favorite release of that entire year, a big boast for a new band. But Boozeman knows his way around death metal and had an early beat on Nevalra, who hail from his home state of Missouri, so hats off to you, good sir, for your foresight. And here we are three-plus years later premiering the first single from Nevalra’s debut full-length, Conjure the Storm, fresh off their signing with M-Theory Audio.
“… Of Ruination” begins with a thunderous death metal riff that quickly transitions to black metal-inflected guitar melody and then back again to a ferocious pummel. The vocals vacillate between both styles throughout the song as well, which has one overarching theme despite its seamless transitions from one style of metal to the next: a grueling, unrelenting pace. “… Of Ruination” clocks in at just over three minutes, accomplishing what any introduction to a band should do: leaving you wanting more.
Conjure the Storm comes out on June 7th via M-Theory Audio and can be pre-ordered here (along with a chance to win a B.C. Rich V guitar). It was mixed and mastered by the legendary Dan Swano (Opeth, Dark Funeral, Dissection, Marduk) and includes guest appearances by Andres Vargas (Thy Antichrist) and Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index, Scour). Check out the lyric video for “… Of Ruination” below, designed by Rafael Ortega of Ecliptic Visions.
Nevalra will be on tour with Carach Angren, Thy Antichrist and Wolfheart this summer. Dates here.
