Converge / Mutoid Man Drummer Ben Koller Cleared to Resume Drumming After Elbow Surgery
Last December, revered drummer Ben Koller (Converge, Mutoid Man, All Pigs Must Die), broke his elbow in “a freak accident” which required immediate surgery, sidelining him from both his lifelong passion and primary source of income. The metal community graciously chipped in with a $33,000 crowd-funding campaign for their beat-bashing hero while Chris Maggio (Wear Your Wounds, ex-Trap Them, etc.) sat in for his recovering compadre on Mutoid Man’s European/UK tour with Mastodon and Kvelertak.
Koller had initially hoped to participate in Converge’s February tour of Japan, and while that didn’t happen — it was a particularly ambitious timeline to begin with — we have some great news today: Ben has been cleared by doctors to resume drumming at full strength! Via Instagram this morning along with a badass x-ray of his healed, screwed together joint:
“Check this mother fucker out! Fully healed and cleared to play full strength drums again!!! Aaahhhhhh I’m so happy. Lots of band announcements coming for 2019 and beyond. I’m so happy AGGHHHH!!!! ????????????????”
All the emojis, Benjamin! May you be back on the road as soon as you can get back up to full speed, which we don’t expect will be very long at all.
