Newly Discovered Species of Beetle Named After Nightwish Singer Floor Jansen

Nightwish singer Floor Jansen joins the members of Between the Buried and Me as notable metal musicians to have animal species named after them.

Scientist Andreas Weigel discovered a new species of beetle last year and named it after Jansen, dubbing it Tmesisternus floorjansenae. What a surreal and bizarre honor! Jansen announced the news via Facebook along with a close-up photo of this most beautiful creature (above).

Interestingly, Jansen isn’t the first member of Nightwish to have a newly discovered species named after her: biologist Jukka Salmela found a new kind of fungus gnat in Finland in 2017 and named it Sciophila holopaineni after Tuomas Holopainen.
