John Jarvis (Pig Destroyer) Launches Baseball-Themed Grindcore Band Kolten Wong City

In the long, storied tradition of the intersection between America’s pastime and songs played faster than 200 bpm — including the legendary outfit Puig Destroyer — comes Kolten Wong City, a baseball-themed grindcore band helmed by Pig Destroyer / Agoraphobic Nosebleed drummer John Jarvis.

The outfit, which takes its name from the band Kowloon Walled City and St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong, will release its debut EP Expressed Written Consent on March 28th. With song titles such as “Suicide Squeeze,” “Walkoff” and “Bottom of the Order” it’s clear that Jarvis writes from a place of true adoration for the game, and in the EP’s debut single, “Beat the Shift,” he laments the trend of defensive repositioning, encouraging the protagonist as such: “if you can just go the other way, go over the top!” Amen.
