Exclusive Track Premiere: “Sabbah” by The Well
Here’s a challenge: listen to “Sabbah,” the new song from “The Well,” all the way through, and DO NOT TAP YOUR FOOT OR BOB YOUR HEAD EVEN ONCE. No cheating — you can’t tie your neck to a chair or nail your foot to the floor or whatever. You have to listen to all four minutes of the track and successfully resist the urge to move in time with the music.
We’re betting you won’t be able to do it. “Sabbah” is an intoxicating mix of stoner metal and occultist rock — it’s dark n’ doomy, sure, but it’s also as catchy as fly paper coated in industrial strength glue. The band cites both “authentic early 70s doom/heavy psych” and groups like Joy Division and The Cure as influences, which gives you some sense of what they have in store for you here. Imagine Black Sabbath on lithium, or perhaps a collaboration between Baroness and Electric Wizard recorded on the wrong side of the River Styx, and you won’t be that far off. It is, in other words, great, great stuff.
MetalSucks is thrilled to debut “Sabbah” for your listening pleasure below! If you love it (spoiler alert: you will), mark your calendars: the track will appear on the band’s third album, Death and Consolation, out April 24 on RidingEasy Records. Pre-order it here. The band goes on tour starting next month; get dates at the bottom of this post!
