Whitesnake Still Slithering with “Shut Up & Kiss Me”
David Coverdale is approaching 70, which I find shocking. Not because I can’t believe he’s getting so old, but because I thought he was already 80 when he “Ripper” Owens’d it for Jimmy Page, and that was already 26 years ago. I’m not sure I even knew Coverdale was still alive.
But he is, and is still going stroke with Whitesnake, which is appropriate, because a few more years and he’ll have to slither on his belly to get around. The band has a new album called Flesh & Blood coming out May 10 on Frontiers; the first single, “Shut Up & Kiss Me,” is actually pretty catchy, although the video is kind of bizarre. There’s a section where a bunch of young women recreate the Tawny Kitaen-atop-a-car thing from the “Here I Go Again” video, and I’m not entirely sure what the takeaway is meant to be, other than “People under 40 only remember this one thing about Whitesnake.”
Like I said, the song is catchy, though!
