Metal Musicians Reacts to Maroon 5’s Lame Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show
The reaction to Maroon 5’s halftime show at last night’s Super Bowl LIII was pretty much unanimous: “That sucked.”
In hindsight, Adam Levine ripping off his shirt was one of the most exciting moments of the entire evening, sandwiched between two halves of a game with very little action on offense.
The metal and rock world, naturally, had a whole lot to say about it — some good, mostly bad. Many, sharing a popular sentiment that always gains steam this time of year, called for Metallica to get the invite to play the big game. Many quoted Levine’s recent line that rock is dead and threw it right back at him.
Here are some of those reactions from Twitter.

Rams lost but ROCK won. @foofighters @perryfarrell @zacbrownband & myself. Grohl: “This ain’t the halftime shit, this is the GOOD TIME shit!” pic.twitter.com/sEtv0DHBZD

Vernon Reid (Living Colour)
That was the most joyless band performance at a SuperBowl halftime show-EVER. They got THROUGH it- NO vibe between the band members AT ALL. NO sense of camaraderie or shared mission. They have POPULAR songs too. It felt like it SUCKED. For THEM.

Frank Bello (Anthrax)
Just when I thought this @SuperBowl couldn’t get worse- the halftime show starts.. .

Whatever he was trying to do on stage tonight is way more dead than Rock will ever be https://t.co/SljG9KGWtv

i'm getting a mixed message from the NFL and this Super Bowl half time show. You want the game to be less violent, but then you ask Maroon 5 to play?? Umm, have you ever been in an M5 pit when they play "Payphone"?? Clearly not!
