Mike Patton Canceled His NFL National Anthem Performance
Just as quickly as the strange story of Mike Patton singing the national anthem at an NFL game began, so it ended.
After announcing Friday evening that he’d be performing the national anthem before Saturday’s playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys, the Faith No More, Tomahawk and Mr. Bungle pioneer woke up feeling ill Saturday morning and proclaimed himself unfit to perform. We never got an explanation as to how this opportunity came about — the whole thing is quite odd seeing as Patton is hardly your average football type, you know? and he’s not from either team’s city — but hopefully someone will ask him about it in an interview sooner rather than later. Could it be possible this entire thing was a publicity stunt? I wouldn’t put it past Patton.
Here’s Patton’s message, via Facebook:
“Sorry football folks, i woke up feeling horrible. No anthem today for me!”
As the saying goes, there’s always next year.
