Canadian Man Blames Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart” for His Speeding Ticket
A round of applause for this Canadian driver. In the history of bullshit excuses people have used to try and get out of speeding tickets, this is surely a new one.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, after recently pulling over a man for driving at 145 kmh — that’s roughly 90 mph, for us ‘Muhricans — the driver tried to blame Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart” for his violation of the speed limit:
“This driver’s excuse for going 145kmh? Kickstart my Heart by Mötley Crüe was on the radio. Funny enough, our officer knew he was telling the truth, since he was also listening to it – just at a much slower & safer speed. Fined $639. #noexcuses#AlwaysGotTheCopsComingAft
erMe“
No word of why the driver had failed to reach 103 mph, which is the driving speed specified in the song’s lyrics. But it may be because the driver, not having a “custom built bike” like the one to which the track refers, felt he had some leeway with regards to the speed needed to kickstart his heart.
Last year, Andrew W.K. paid for a British fan’s speeding ticket after said fan revealed he received the fine while driving to “Music is Worth Living For.” No word yet on whether or not the Crüe will offer similar treatment here… although since they released a pair of box sets called Music to Crash Your Car To, the band may argue that the driver should just thank his lucky stars he’s alive.
