AngelMaker Bring the Chugs on New Song “Hollow Heart”
Former MetalSucks intern Mitchel Winney absolutely loved AngelMaker. When I pressed him on what exactly he dug so much about the band over their many deathcore peers, he couldn’t really answer… and that conversation resulted in an editorial entitled “The Problem with Deathcore” in which he lamented that the genre is “all the same shit, over and over again,” amongst other problems.
So: does AngelMaker’s new song “Hollow Heart” tread new ground?
I’m inclined to give a big old “not really.” There are some cool moments in the song for sure, but there’s nothing that makes me wanna jam the track again, and there’s no stylistic evolution within the genre. It’s adequate, but doesn’t bowl me over. Am I just old and jaded? That one guy sure does have amazing long, blonde hair, though, which must’ve been a huge part of why Mr. Winney liked them so much (good old fashioned jealousy).
Lucky for Mitch — who nominated AngelMaker’s forthcoming album as one that would fuck your face off in 2018 — it seems the band will finally release that new album this year, and “Hollow Heart” will be on it, although no further details have been provided. Does that, like Mitch, make you excited? Tell me why in the comments, please, I’d like to know!
